So basically for the past month the entire country has been cricket crazy. Yesterday was the quarterfinals with New Zealand versus West Indies. The game was right here in Wellington at the Westpac stadium which sold out all 34,500 seats. Now, for someone who hasn't ever watched cricket, let me tell you now, it is a long long game. The whole World Cup lasts over a month and the game yesterday went on from about 2pm to 9pm, and that is still a short game. Fortunately, I finished work before the game ended and all 34,500 fans migrated to the bars to celebrate their victory.
Tui, which is a major beer of New Zealand is holding a competition throughout the World Cup. They will reward up to a million dollars to the fan who catches a fly ball one handed. The fan also has to be wearing the official orange shirt with a white target on it and the words, "Catch a Million." At yesterday's game the seventh man, since the start of the competition, was able to do this. Unfortunately, all the lucky guys before him will now have their reward split seven ways.
